Frequently Asked Questions

Switching to solar energy is a big step, we understand that you want to know all the details first. Here at GOSO Tech, our experts are here to answer all of your questions! Check out our most frequently asked questions below or call us today to get more information.

How do solar panels work?

Solar panels generate direct current (DC) energy by absorbing sunlight with photovoltaic cells. This is then converted with inverter technology into usable energy. Solar panels are made up of many small units of photovoltaic cells (cells that convert sunlight into electricity). Each of these cells is made up of silicon material that conducts electricity. Similar to a magnetic field, these silicon layers consist of an electrical charge. When sunlight hits the panels, electrons will begin to flow and generate a current which will be combined with power from other solar cells. Then, your home is powered with electricity!

Oftentimes, more electricity is generated than needed, which is why many people participate in a net metering program. Net metering programs will send power to the grid when your system has overproduced electricity (common in the summer). In exchange for this, you may receive credits on your electricity bill! This will allow you to use energy (credits) from the grid during times when there is low production. Programs such as these are just one of many reasons why solar panel systems have been growing in popularity!

How long will my solar panels last?

If you install solar panels of the highest quality, you can expect it to last for many decades. Typically, solar panel systems will last about 25-30 years but there are solar panels from 50 years ago that are still producing solar energy today! After three decades of use, systems will typically decrease a bit in output.

Do they require any maintenance?

Little to no maintenance is required for solar panel systems. They will not need to be washed since rain and wind will naturally clean off any debris on the panels.

What’s a solar system warranty look like?

When you purchase with GOSO Tech, you install industry-leading equipment backed by great warranties. Our team is here to help you ensure longevity for your system’s lifespan!

Will my solar panels still work when it’s cloudy or raining?

This is often the first question people ask when it comes to solar panels. In short, yes. Your solar panels will continue to produce energy on rainy or cloudy days, but it will be less. Your home or building will still have enough power because of past energy produced and stored energy if you are using a solar battery.

What is battery storage?

Battery storage is the energy saved for those days when it’s not clear out. Solar batteries are an investment many make to ensure that their home or building is still with power, no matter the conditions outside. We highly recommend solar batteries for individuals not connected to a utility company or homeowners that are located in areas prone to outages.

What is the cost of a solar energy system?

Costs always vary depending on the size of your solar panel system, design, quality, location, and who you hire to install it. Although initial costs may be high, the reward pays it off. Homeowners and business owners that install professional solar panels are eligible for federal tax credits that pay you back a portion of the installation. Other incentives are offered by the state, so it is best to check your state and local programs for more information.

Do people actually save money with solar panels?

Yes! People often hesitate when it comes to the legitimacy of saving on energy costs with solar panels. The amount you save depends on your average energy use and the quality of your solar panel system. Solar panels provide great ROI and put you one step closer to free power!
